"Now that things have settled down after all the months of a whirlwind of wedding planning....I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate you DJ'ing Erin and Jacob's wedding. You did things just like we asked. Lots of the guests have commented about how nice the music was! I'll be sure to pass your name on to others. Thanks for a fantastic reception." -Ginger [mother of a 2011 bride]

How to Choose a DJ, More Importantly--Why Us?
Finding the right DJ for your event can be a major challenge. The right DJ can make a huge difference. Walking the fine line between creating a fun dance for your guests (so they stick around) and keeping the music mix varied and the lyrics appropriate is no easy task. Here are some steps we take:
-
Always have a telephone conversation with the actual DJ who will be showing up to do your dance. Don't settle for a conversation with the DJ company owner or manager. Your needs and desires may get lost in translation if communicated through a third party. Belanger Media Group is a small, local company--I do the booking, and conferencing.
-
Be clear about your desires and expectations. Everyone has a different set of standards and expectations. The DJ should know how conservative or tolerant you are. If you have been to other events, or are a school, share the challenges or concerns from previous experiences. Unless you specifically ask, Belanger Media Group plays "radio edit" or "clean" music.
-
Schools: Ask the DJ to make announcements about dance behavior. If you have a specific message provide the DJ with a written copy of it and instruct him how often you would like the announcement made. Don't expect the DJ to be fully responsible for dance behavior--we can be your trusted partner in switching up the music and making announcements, but chaperones need to be the enforcers.
-
Provide one contact (you or someone you designate) as the DJ's liaison at the event. If there are concerns or a need for music changes or announcements he should have only one source to take official direction. It is the practice of Belanger Media group to conference before an event to get the best idea of your objectives for the event!
